Azrael is a childhood friend of of Echo and both their families were stationed at the same military base. Azrael's world was turned upside down when she discovered that her father was having an affair with Echo's mother. The scandal forced her family to transfer to another base and eventually both families dissolved.

Echo went on to become a masked hero while Azrael took a much darker path and studied black magic, learning that she possessed a talent for necromancy.

It was several years later when Azrael learned that her old friend had been killed by Invicctus' brother, Jensen. She secretly used all of her magic to resurrect the fallen hero and went into hiding, her power and her sanity seemingly taking a heavy hit from such a powerful spell.

It was several months more before Echo finally learned the truth and confronted his old friend who was now going on a magical rampage to regain as much power as she could. Echo used his ability to copy the powers of others to summon the spirit of Azrael's now dead mother in an attempt to dissuade her murderous ways. This was a mistake.

After emotionally devastating her, the summoning of the person she loved the most only enraged Azrael and she spun on him, sticking a knife into his gut. Azrael fled, leaving her now former friend bleeding out on the street. If it hadn't been for the arrival of Invictus, Echo may well have died a second time.

Now, Azrael is crazier and angrier than ever and with this psychotic necromancer on the loose, one thing is for certain.

The dead will walk again.
